Climate & Information About Ecuador
Ecuador contains some of the most varied geographies in South America, with four distinct regions: the Andean highlands, coastal plains, the Amazon Basin and the Galapagos Islands. The capital city of Ecuador is Quito.
Ecuador is one of the smallest countries in South America, located in the northern and southern hemispheres. Ecuador borders Colombia (North), Peru (South and East) and the Pacific Ocean (West).
Despite being at altitudes above 2500 m (8200 ft) above sea level, proximity to Ecuador makes the weather in Quito and the central highlands surprisingly enjoyable throughout the year. Due to the altitude travelers with heart disease and blood pressure should be checked by a doctor if problems arise, it is recommended to drink only bottled water and sealed. Ecuador's currency is the US dollar. Other currencies can be exchanged at a bank.
