These are the largest known Inca ruins in Ecuador. The most significant building is the temple of the sun, an elliptically shaped building constructed around a large rock. The building is constructed in the Inca way without mortar in most of the complex.
The Ingapirca area is a blooming parish of southern Ecuador located in Cañar province, with an area of 240 square kilometers and a population of approximately 14,000 inhabitants. The archaeological site of Ingapirca is located 80 km north of Cuenca.
We start our tour by visiting the “Virgin del Rocio” church in Biblian (on Wednesdays), its architecture shows a very interesting gothic style from the beginning of the 20th century.
We will continue our trip with a visit to an indigenous family’s home, to observe the knitting of the Panama hat, which is the main handy craft of the country and forms an important income for the native people from the southern part of Ecuador.
Finally, we will visit the archaeological site of Ingapirca to observe each one of the buildings, such as “Cañaris” and “Incas” from there we will visit the museum located next to the ruins.
After this, we will have lunch and return to the city of Cuenca.
